"No Milk Today"...

...was a hit by British pop group Herman Hermit's in 1966. Today, 53 years later, it is true also onboard Jennifer.

We strongly believe that one of our fellow crew members consume milk like a newborn calf! When we left Cowes 3 days ago we had 10 UK pints (5.68 L) of fresh milk in the refrigerator. Yesterday at lunch time, I noticed that we only had less than half a pint of milk left...Who is our heavy milk user?
Only 3 members add a few drops to their coffee. In addition only Tore, Lasse and I use a limited amount of milk with our morning porridge.

In order to save a few precious drops of milk for today's breakfast I secretly filled a small ex juice bottle from the big container for use in a game of "hide and seek". By now I now Jennifer's refrigerator like the palm of my hand and this little game helped me to save milk and our Sunday morning mood.

The Great Milk Mystery on the English Channel has yet to be solved!l

No shortcuts allowed on the English Channel!

At 6.30 PM we tried to sail thru one of several windfarms on our way to Amsterdam, but a patrol boat (registered in Panama -  a case of outsourcing of guard duty?) contacted us and in very definite terms told us to change course which we did by 60°. Consequently we had to make a detour costing us some 60-90 minutes

The red dot on the radar screen is Jennifer and all the long yellow lines represent the windfarm forest on our starboard side.

Jennifer Sailor Boys Dreaming...

...about Dutch Meermaids? On our way to Amsterdam the sea is fairly calm for the first time during our long voyage. It is a perfect opportunity for my off duty crewmates to take a nap after enjoying a full buffet breakfast at sea!

Bye bye Dover!

We could safely pass thru the harbour lock and we are now heading out towards the European continent. On our way out we once again saw our friends from Border Force. They were busy cleaning their ship before the next mission.

A final view of The White Cliffs of Dover from the stern of Jennifer - and then bye bye!

Dover Breakfast Service

Yesterday Christian visited the Marina Harbour Master to find out about today's opening hours of the lock. He was informed that the lock will be open from 8.45 AM, +/- 5 minutes. Our goal now is to be ready to sail at that time.

In order to get things moving this morning I served Tore breakfast in bed. It was very much appreciated by him, he has become Jennifer's own barista. After this jumpstart he was happy to assist me by cooking porridge while I prepared a breakfast buffet with cold cuts, boiled egg, cheese and more coffee.

Now we are ready for our next leg to Amsterdam. Estimated sailing time is 30 hours to cover 150 NM.

The White Cliffs of Dover hands on

A visit to Dover is not complete without a visit to The White Cliffs of Dover. After exploring the central part of the city I followed the shore line and started a slow climb of the nearest cliffs. These white cliffs are visible for many miles from the seaside and are the first sign of UK to greet arriving seamen.

Once on top of the cliff I had an excellent view of the busy harbour area with all the car ferries. The Dover port is a main gate for traffic between UK and the rest of Europe.

Dover and Queen Elizabeth II

After another day and night sail from Cowes (22 hours,141 NM) we are now safely anchored In the Granville Dock of the Dover Marina. In order to enter the dock you have to pass thru a lock since the difference between high water and low water is 6.19 meters. In order to enter or exit the marina you have to contact the marina office from which the lock is controlled. He knows his tide tables.

Dover Marina is located close to down town Dover (pop. 42.000). The Market Square in the town centre is only a 10 minute walk from the Marina. The main attraction here is Dover Castle, visible from almost any point in the city.

After having a long leisurely breakfast onboard Jennifer I headed into town. By chance I found a nice little trail to follow, "the Dour Greenway", which passes thru the central part of this little town. And then, by chance on my way back to Jennifer, I met a very airy Queen standing on the boardwalk.
