Jennifer Crew Presentation 7

Terry from near Chattanooga (pop. 180.000) TN, USA joined us in Amsterdam and will sail with us to Stockholm. He retired at the age of 65 and now, at 70, he enjoys life by sailing, traveling and to play golf. Terry is a Jennifer repeat crew member. In 2018 he sailed with Captain Lasse in the Mediterranean Sea.

Terry has an interesting background. As a young man he was a cattle farmer in Iowa and later in Texas. But farming was not very profitable* and in 1983 he went back to university and got his MBA. After graduation he moved to Vermont and worked for an oil company and after 8 years there he moved to Chattanooga and worked in financial services until his retirement. Terry is married, has two sons and two grandchildren.

*There were lots of rattlesnakes on Terry's farm in Texas. When he was out working in the field he used to bring a cooler box with him. Any rattle snake that came his way ended up dead in the cooler box. Back home he put them in the freezer. Once he had collected a fair amount of snakes he sold the lot to a local restaurant. He told me that he made more money selling snakes than he could make from his cattle business. When I asked him about the taste of rattle snake meat his reply was a simple "fishy".

Compagnieshaven...

...is the name of our marina here in Enkhuizen. It is privately owned and has 650 berths. The marina is located right in the centuries old centre, only a two-minutes walk from the town centre. Our next destination is Lemmer on the opposite side of the inland lake Ijsselmeer.

On my grand tour on foot of Compagnieshaven this morning I met many of Jennifer's older Dutch sisters.

Enkhuizen - the fishing port

This little town has a long tradition as a fishing port. The peak period was around 1850. Today, although on a much smaller scale, it is still possible to survive here as a fishermen by using the latest technology for food harvesting at sea.

Cabin upgrade and a new cabin mate

Shortly after arrival in the harbour of Enkhuizen (pop. 18.400) I could move in to my new en suite accommodation on Jennifer's portside. Christian and Lars was sharing this cabin until they left us in Amsterdam. But I will not be totally alone - a serious looking guy is permanently living in this cabin. The good thing with him is that he doesn't snore!
